DRILL:
Variation 1, 10 Buckshot Drill: Static shooter, shotgun in tactical mode with 5 rounds of Buckshot or Birdshot. Start at low ready position with safety lever indexed. At the beep, present to steel static plate and engage with 5 rounds of shot as smooth and fast as possible, when empty combat load one shot round and hit the plate an additional five times. After the tenth overall shot the timer stops but the shooter combat loads to second sight with the eleventh round (without discharging it) to practice proper follow through.
Times: EXPERT, under 10 seconds. VERY GOOD 10-18 seconds, GOOD 18-30 seconds
Variation 2, 10 Buckshot + Slug: After completing the second sight follow through with an eleventh shot round in variation 1 the shooter then select loads a slug and hits the scoring area of the paper target at 15 to 25 yards. NO SLUGS ON STEEL!
Times: EXPERT under 14 seconds, VERY GOOD 14-22 seconds, GOOD 22-30 seconds
Variation 3, 10 Buckshot + Slug + Pistol: After completing the select slug hit on paper, the shooter performs a transition drill to pistol and hits the static steel plate with one hit. If the shooter misses with the pistol the shooter engages until the static plate is hit, the time ends on the last shot with any misses penalized at two seconds per miss. The idea here is that the plate is easy to hit with the shotgun and difficult with the pistol therefore a transition on trigger control and sight alignment must be made for the pistol.
Times: EXPERT under 16 seconds, VERY GOOD 16-24 seconds, GOOD 24-30 seconds
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: This drill is a fun drill that will dramatically increase the level of comfort, skill, and confidence with the shotgun. Emphasis on smoothness, combat loading under compressed time frames.
