Speed, accuracy, weapon handling, performing the draw from secured holsters quickly, trigger manipulation, watching the front sight alignment, and reloading skills will be emphasized. A timer will be used during this training which places induced stress along with a measurable method of determining your skills. We will also be conducting elimination drills on both paper and steel targets.

Instructor: Lieutenant Dennis Carroll has been a supervisor for 21 years with the Schaumburg, Illinois, Police Department. He has been a certified master  firearms instructor in Illinois since 1988 as a state certified firearms instructor for revolver, pistol,  rifle, shotgun and SMG. Practical Shotgun for the Patrol Officer
Capt. Mike Boyle - New Jersey Division of Fish & Game

Course Description: Despite it’s tremendous utility value, the police shotgun remains an underutilized and misunderstood tool. Many of the negative attitudes relative to the shotgun stem from improper training and as a result, officers never develop confidence in this particular weapon system. This 8 hour block of instruction will focus on the use of the shotgun as a fighting tool, with particular emphasis on reduced light operation. The shotgun enjoys greater hit potential than with the service handgun, however this will only be realized with proper training.

Instructor: Capt. Boyle is the Training Administrator for the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife, Bureau of Law Enforcement and an instructor with the Streamlight Academy. He is also a police academy instructor and Rangemaster and the author of over 300 published articles, including several on the subject of reduced light shooting. Mike serves on the IALEFI® Board of Directors where he chairs the Regional Training Committee.

Student requirements: duty shotgun, 50 rounds 00 Buck, 5 Slugs, duty belt and equipment, handgun with speed loaders or magazines, and 20 rounds of ammunition.
