| Course Description:
Law enforcement officers routinely carry a smaller concealed handgun
for a wide variety of reasons. Ironically, few agencies offer any
specialized training in this area, leaving the officer at a serious
disadvantage. Merely qualifying for the record is hardly adequate. This block of instruction will explore deployment of the smaller concealed handgun, equipment issues, operator mindset, tactics and development of agency policy. Live fire drills will emphasize a quick response to one or more assailants in close proxinisity to the officer. Instructor Bio: Mike Boyle is a Captain with the NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife Bureau of Law Enforcement. With over 25 years experience as a firearms instructor, Mike is a Police Academy Instructor, Presenter and Assistant Police Academy Director, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of IALEFI. Student requirements: Small pistol or revolver with 150 rounds of ammunition Covering ------ and concealment holster. |

description: Edged weapon threats to law enforcement are on the
rise. Coincendently many law enforcement officers carry a knife
as a last ditch defensive tool. The objective of this couse is to
show the officer knowledge of how a knife, is used correctly and how to
defend against an aggressive offender with this knowledge. Instructor Bio: Joe Maffei has been a practicer of defensive tactics ..............martial arts for more than 30 years. He operates his own facility in Waltham MA and has coached students to two world titles in mixed martial arts. Joe has trained law enforcement officers from state, local, military and elite federal agencies. His first Paladin Press video production, "The Reality of Edged Weapons", was released in 2002. Joe has been a contributor to various martial arts, knife and training periodicals. Student requirements: Solid training knife, eye protection, mouth piece, groin protection, (cup), pen and paper. |

description: This block of instruction will explore the role of
the rifle and carbine for both patrol and special operations.
Topics to be covered include checking for zero, transition to the
handgun, shooting on the move, deployment and .........shooting. Instructor Bio: John Zamrock is a decorated Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, retired from 23 years of municipal and state law enforcement service. He has served as a SWAT Team Leader and his 29 years of law enforcement firearms experience includes 5 years as an instructor with H&K International Training Division. John is presently the State's Rangemaster and coordinates all aspects of recruit and inservice firearms training. Student requirements: Rifle or carbine with 200 rounds, duty handgun with 40 rounds of ammunition. |

description: This course will present an instructor-level
overview of tactical handgun training principles and concerns.
The brief classroom lecture will touch on issues including safety,
training theory for reflexive skills, proper mode for covering suspects
at gunpoint, involuntary muscular contraction and unintentional
discharge, techniques for drawing, reloading and clearing stoppages,
close-range defensive techniques, firing while moving, and
disabled-officer techniques. Topics presented briefly in the
classroom will then be followed by range exercises to demonstrate how
the relevant techniques can be trained effectively. Range
exercises will include steel reactive target drills, competitions, and
working with a partner officer. Instructor Bio: Emanuel Kapelsohn is an IALEFI Vice President, IALEFI Board member for over 20 years, and present at every IALEFI Annual Training Conference since 1984. He has trained and certified some 15,000 police officers, firearms instructors and armorers nationwide and overseas over the past 25 years, with handguns, shotguns, submachine guns, patrol and countersniper rifles. He is also a practicing attorney, has authored numerous books, articles, and published standards on law enforcement firearms training, and regularly serves as an expert witness in city and criminal cases involving firearms and the use of force in state and federal courts throughout the country. Clients for which he has served as an expert witness include U.S. Department of Justice, several federal agencies, state attorney general's offices, major city police departments, and district attorney's. Certified as an instructor in firearms, defensive tactics, baton, OC, Taser, handgun retention, less lethal impact munitions, use of force and other disciplines, he is an instructor at the Allentown (PA) Police Academy, a deputy sheriff where he resides in Berks County PA, and a consultant to state and federal law enforcement agencies, training commissions, and manufacturers of firearms related products. He is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School, an NRA Life Member, former staff instructor at Gunsite under Col. Jeff Cooper, member of ASLET and NTOA, was A-class IPSC competitor and Technical Editor of Police Marksman magazine, and continues as a member of it's National Advisory Board. Student requirements: Pen or pencil, duty-type handgun and holster (plainclothes holders should preferably be worn concealed), at least two spare magazines or speedloaders and pouch, wraparound or side paneled eye protection (prescription glasses or sun glasses without side protection are not sufficient) muff-type hearing protection (not just plugs), baseball-type cap with brim, handcuffs (w/wo) pouch and 300 rounds of full-power ammunition (duty or training ammunition is acceptable). Recommended but not required: soft body armor, back-up handgun if carried with holster and 50 rounds ammunition, flashlight, gun cleaning gear, rain gear and weather appropriate clothing, beverages to stay hydrated. |

Participants are asked to report to the · All range activities require a hat, wrap around eye protection and ear protection. The use of soft body armor during training is recommended. · All participants who have not already done so will be required to participate in a brief IALEFI® safety check prior to any range activity. |
| Eligibility: | Attendees must be a member of IALEFI® or a certified law enforcement officer. THIS CONFERENCE IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 40 people who send in their registration and conference fee or purchase orders etc. IALEFI® will invoice your Department and/or agency if so requested. |
