Building skills with the law Enforcement Carbine Magazine fed, semi-auto carbines are now commonly used by both tactical specialists and patrol officers. This block of instruction will examine the role of the carbine as an effective conflict resolution tool. Live fire drills will be challenging and physically demanding. Instructor: Aaron Davis is a US Navy veteran with over 25 years of experience in small arms instruction and repair. Aaron has training military and law enforcement special operations teams both domestic and abroad in the use of night vision equipment and weapons and tactics. Aaron has an extensive background in weapons and optical development, and has been instrumental in the development of not only special weapons and night vision platform, but also the tactics and training for their use. Aaron is a certified armorer and transition operator instructor for Glock, Sig, Beretta, and FN, firearms/weapon systems. Student Requirements: Eye and ear protection, long pants, “NO shorts”, hat with brim, rifle with sling and 3 magazines (minimum), pistol with holster and 3 magazines, 250 rounds rifle, 50 rounds pistol, knee and elbow pads, and light gloves. |

Practical Shotgun for The Patrol Officer Despite its tremendous utility value, the shotgun remains an underutilized and misunderstood tool. Many of the negative attitudes relative to the shotgun stem from improper training, and as a result officers never develop confidence in this particular weapon system. This block of instruction will explore alternate instructional techniques to make training with the shotgun a positive rather than negative experience. Instructor Mike Boyle served as a Captain with the NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife, Bureau of Law Enforcement and has over 25 years experience as a use of force instructor. He has been an Assistant Police Academy Director and remains active providing recruit, in-service and instructor level training in a variety of firearms disciplines. Mike has been on the IALEFI Board of Directors since 1996 and currently chairs the Regional Training Committee. A frequent contributor to both firearms ad law enforcement journals, Mike is the author of over 400 published articles. Student Requirements: Shotgun with 80 rounds, (at least 10 rifled slug, and 20 buckshot, birdshot is ok for the remaining quantity) pistol with at least 20 rounds, ear and wrap around eye protection is required. |

Enhancing Combative Pistol Craft Skills An individual’s particular shooting style is the product of a number of influences, including prior training, established doctrine and personal preference. But can we do better? This block of instruction will analyze various combat skills such as drawing, shooting at high speed, ready position and clearing stoppage as they apply to the continuous motion principle. Instructor Dave Spaulding is a 32 year law enforcement and private security veteran. Dave has been involved in small arms training for almost 3 decades. Having worked in all facets of law enforcement including patrol, investigations, undercover operations, training and SWAT, he is a graduate of most all of the major firearms and tactical operations schools. He is the author of almost 1,000 articles that have appeared in major newsstands and trade periodicals over the last twenty years. He is also the author of the bestselling book, Defensive Living and Handgun Combatives. Student Requirements: Duty semi-auto pistol, holster, two spare magazine and carrier, eye & ear protection, billed hat, and 300 rounds of ammunition. |

Law Enforcement Defensive Knife Most law enforcement officer routinely carry a knife while on duty, although knives are most often utilized in a utility rote, they can be a lifesaver in a confrontation when the officer is unable to access the handgun. This class will provide the law enforcement officer with a number of simple easily retained techniques to defend themselves against a potentially lethal assault. Instructor John Benner spent 30 years in the Cincinnati area law enforcement, including time as a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force commander. John is a US Army Vietnam combat veteran and the owner of the Tactical Defense Institute. He is also a cutlery designer for Ka-Bar Knives. Student requirements: Training knife, pen and notebook |
