Advanced Shooting Skills
Amarillo SWAT Team
This course will enhance anyone’s shooting through different
shooting courses that are fun and very challenging. This course will
make anyone a better shooter and the courses will be great to take home
to your agency.
Requirements: Duty gear, duty weapon, 500 rounds of ammunition.
Confined Space Engagement
Lt. Kenneth Farren (Retired)
Constricted space or linear space engagements are always “up
close and personal," so that the tactics of time, distance and cover
that are applicable under other circumstances don’t apply. In a
close encounter of the first kind you need to be capable of
properly handling, maneuvering and employing your weapon in any
situation you may find yourself thrust in to. In constricted space
combat the urge to fight or flight will be instantaneous. Learned
constricted space weapons movements and shooting techniques are a must
and essential to your professional development and your self
preservation
Ken Farren is the former Chief Deputy
of the 206 Officer Potter County Sheriffs Office and a Retired
Lieutenant for the Amarillo Police Department. He has over 34-years as
a Law Enforcement Officer and a graduate of 215th FBI National Academy.
He is a certified FBI, DPS, and NRA Firearms Instructor specializing in
SWAT Tactics, Officer Involved Shootings, Basic and Advance Firearms.
Farren has instructed law officers from all over southwest United
States and military/police units in Brazil. He is also a Board Member
for IALEFI®
Requirements: Duty gear, duty weapon, 200 rounds of ammunition.
Close Quarter Shooting For The Patrol Rifle
Sgt. Steve Mitchell – Amarillo Police Department
Sgt. Jimmy Johnson – Amarillo Police Department
For most agencies the patrol rifle started out as a perimeter weapon to
secure a scene until more specialized units could arrive.
However, with the increasing threat of active shooters, mass homicides
in progress, terroristic threats, etc. the role of the patrol rifle has
evolved. It is now being utilized by first responding field
officers as a perimeter weapon, an entry weapon and all distances in
between. This course will put the individual through various
drills with an emphasis on close quarter shooting that incorporates
movement, multiple threats, reloading, transitioning to the sidearm and
various other skills that the rifle operator should have.
Sgt. Steve Mitchell is a 25 year
veteran of the Amarillo Police Department. He has worked as a SWAT
Officer, Detective, and Field Supervisor. He is the departments Rifle
Instructor and he has taught at numerous Annual and Regional Training
Conferences, as well as for other agencies.
Sgt. Jimmy Johnson has been with the
Amarillo Police Dept. for 20 years. He has worked in patrol, the
Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Unit, and is currently
assigned to the Detective division. He has served as a SWAT
Alternate, Underwater Search and Rescue Team Member and is a member of
the Honor Guard. In addition to having instructed at RTC’s
and an ATC, he has taught all levels of force across the United States.
